Meet Hydrilla Killa™

Hydrilla Killa™ attacks hydrilla where the plant actually lives — on the lake bottom.

Instead of cutting the stems you see on the surface, it covers the infestation with a heavy woven geotextile barrier that blocks sunlight and presses the plants firmly against the lake bed.

With no light and no ability to grow upward, the plant must rely entirely on the energy stored in its roots and tubers. Eventually the stored energy reserves run out.

Hydrilla dies completely — including the underground tubers that normally regenerate new growth.

  • No cutting.
  • No fragments drifting away to start new colonies.
  • Just the plant quietly exhausting itself beneath the Hydrilla Killa.

What is the Hydrilla Killa?

Hydrilla Killa™ is an engineered framed mat system that sits on the lake bottom and blocks the sunlight hydrilla needs to grow.

The frame is built from 1¼-inch aluminized steel tubing, giving the mat the strength and weight to stay firmly on the lake bottom.

The fabric is a heavy woven black geotextile — the same type of material used beneath roads and highways. This fabric blocks sunlight while allowing water to move freely through the mat.

Assembly is simple. Lay the mat fabric flat on shore and slide the frame pieces into the sewn sleeves along the edges — much like sliding curtain rods into curtain pockets.

Once the frame is in place it becomes rigid and holds the fabric taut.

Place the mat in the water where you want it. The mat will sink on its own, though most people guide it down to position it exactly where they want it.

The heavy-duty steel frame gives the mat enough weight and structure to stay firmly seated on the lake bottom.

Hydrilla Killa™ Destroys the Entire Plant — Roots, Stems, Tubers, and All

Hydrilla survives most control methods because the underground parts remain alive.

The stems you see at the surface are only part of the plant. The real engine of hydrilla growth is underground — in its roots, buds, and tubers.

Of all the available methods — chemicals, harvesting, carp, and cutting — Hydrilla Killa™ is the only method capable of destroying the entire plant at once.

Hydrilla Killa™ uses a simple biological fact:
Every green plant on Earth depends on sunlight to survive.

Block the sunlight, and the plant eventually exhausts the energy stored in its roots and tubers.

No chemicals.
No repeated treatments.
No swimming restrictions.

Just sunlight deprivation doing what cutting and chemicals can’t: Hydrilla Killa™ stops the Godzilla of lake weeds in its tracks.

Where Hydrilla Killa™ Makes the Most Sense

Hydrilla Killa™ is designed for the places where hydrilla causes the most frustration — the areas you actually use.

It works best when you want to clear:

• The area around a dock or boat lift
• A swimming area along the shoreline
• A boat lane leading away from shore
• A kayak or paddle board launch
• The bottom beneath a marina slip
• A small cove or protected pocket of water

Hydrilla Killa™ isn’t meant to control hydrilla across an entire lake.

Use it to clear the specific places where open water matters most.

Install it once and the bottom beneath the mat stays clear.

Why Hydrilla is Truly a Monster

Picture a solid mass of weeds covering the entire lake bottom and reaching all the way to the surface.

It forms a giant wall — twenty feet tall — stretching in every direction, pushing out every other type of plant and choking boat lanes, canals, marinas, and shoreline access.

In very clear water hydrilla may even reach down thirty feet. It is unusually efficient at photosynthesis in low light and can thrive with only a small fraction of the sunlight most aquatic plants require.

That ability allows hydrilla to spread aggressively and out-compete all other vegetation.

Why Cutting Only Makes the Problem Worse

Cutting or harvesting hydrilla turns one plant into dozens — or hundreds — or even thousands of new plants. Fragments drift away and start new infestations somewhere else in the lake.

That’s why hydrilla often explodes in lakes where weed cutters are used heavily.

Hydrilla Killa™ works differently.

Because the plants remain undisturbed beneath the mat, pieces aren’t broken off to drift away and start new infestations.

Why Chemicals Don’t Solve the Problem

Some systemic herbicides can suppress hydrilla temporarily, but they’re expensive, often require permits, and need repeated applications.

The visible plants may disappear for a while, but the underground tubers survive and eventually send up new growth.

Chemical control becomes ongoing maintenance — not a permanent fix.

Hydrilla Killa™ solves the problem at the source by blocking sunlight and starving the plant beneath the mat.
