The Bonus You Did Not Expect
Here is something worth knowing even if you do not have a dock to protect.
When a lake or pond freezes over completely, oxygen exchange between the water and the air stops. Fish and other aquatic life depend on that exchange to survive the winter. A solid ice cap for weeks or months at a time can cause fish kills, even in healthy ponds.
